The nanosecond (ns) is a unit of time in the International System of Units, defined as 10−9 second using the SI prefix system.

Light takes about a nanosecond to travel one foot, leading some to refer nanosecond as the light-foot (actually the light-foot is 1.0167 ns). Days are progressively getting longer by approximately 50 nanoseconds.
